A decorative brass wall pocket dating from the early to mid-20th century, formed from folded sheet brass and finished with a stylised pierced hanging mount. The front is engraved with a heraldic lion motif.

The brass itself. Warm golden tones have mellowed over the years, developing the soft patina. Small marks and signs of wear sit comfortably within the surface showing its long life of being used.

Wall-mounted pockets such as these were once common household items, mounted next to the fireplace they were a catchall for the expended tapers once the needed fires had been lit.

This would look gorgeous mounted next to any fireplace but also used as a wall pocket for plants, dried flowers or anything else you want on your wall.
